Equine Postural Training

Equine postural training incorporates a variety of techniques designed to enhance mobility, strength, balance, flexibility, and body awareness in horses.

Emma provides a personalised program that utilizes various techniques, designed to empower the owner in the ongoing development of their horse. This approach ensures that both horse and owner can grow together, creating a sustainable path for continuous improvement and long term soundness and wellbeing.

Groundwork

Groundwork is carried out working with a cavesson and single line,  emphasising postural training for horses. This practice aims to provide both the horse and owner essential skills that enhance their posture and movement, ultimately leading to improved soundness. Additionally, it fosters better communication between the horse/human partnership, creating a stronger bond and understanding.

In-hand work

Work in-hand utilizes either a cavesson and reins or a bit and reins, with the handler moving next to the horse. Part of this practice aims to introduce lateral work basics while improving posture and connection, teaching the horse movements on the ground before in preparation for ridden work if required. Consistent practice fosters harmony and effectiveness between horse and handler.

Long rein / Double lunge work

Long rein work involves using two long reins while the handler walks behind the horse, similarly, double lunging utilizes two reins but enables the handler to move the horse in circles and perform various schooling movements from varying positions. Both techniques are interchangeable and are particularly beneficial when riding is not an option. They provide a great way to maintain the horse's training and fitness.

Ridden Lessons

These ridden lessons teach the fundamentals of horse balance, posture, and movement, and help build confidence and trust between horse and rider. Whether you seek standalone lessons or guidance in transitioning ground skills to under-saddle work, these lessons provide a relaxed horse and rider centred approach. Focus is on fostering a deeper understanding of how your horse processes information, and helps strengthen the horse and human connection.

At our sessions, I prioritise the unique needs of each horse and owner. Techniques will be customized to fit your specific situation, ensuring positive experience for both. If a horse isn't responding well to a certain exercise, we'll seamlessly introduce alternatives to maintain comfort and effectiveness throughout the process. You and your horses journey is my top priority.

Sally Thearle

Following an enforced lay-off from riding, I found my confidence at rock bottom and my relationship with my horse, Maddie, suffered badly as a result. Emma has looked after my horses’ physical health for years, so she was my go-to for support and advice to get over my experience, to move forward with my riding and develop my relationship with my horse.

I have been taking ridden lessons with Emma for a couple of months now and the difference in my confidence, and my understanding of both my own and my horse’s mindset has been remarkable.  Through a combination of mindfulness exercises, breathing techniques and ridden exercises Maddie and I have progressed significantly in a short time, and I am looking forward to more ridden lessons in the future to continue in our new direction.
