Professional Veterinary Physiotherapy services, Biomechanical and Rehabilitation Training for equine clients in the Midlands and surrounding areas
Emma is a veterinary physiotherapist based in Derby. She offers veterinary physiotherapy services and groundwork-based training, focusing on improving the biomechanics and movement of the horse.
These services work hand in hand to improve the welfare and performance of companion, leisure, and sports horses.
Veterinary physiotherapy can be used to help restore, maintain, and promote physical function. Being a suitable modality for all horses.
Emma offers a combination of manual therapies, electrotherapies, and remedial exercise to address musculoskeletal issues.
Evolving as prey animals, horses are particularly good at hiding pain and discomfort. Veterinary physiotherapy can help detect and resolve these issues before they become a problem.
Veterinary physiotherapy can also be used to enhance performance, rehabilitate from injury, and as a maintenance assessment to monitor your horse's health and welfare at any age.
The methods taught by Emma aim to improve every horse's movement and future health, with poor or reduced functioning posture and asymmetry impacting health and performance.
Modern schooling methods often don't consider the horse as a whole. Placing increased focus on the head and neck position, but not considering the rest of the body and how it functions biomechanically.
Emma's aims are to provide owners with the skills to be able to see and understand poor posture and movement. And to provide them with tools to help improve these issues with every horse they work with.
These methods can be used at any stage of a horses' life, and are beneficial for straightening natural asymmetry, correcting poor posture, pre-habilitation, and re-habilitation, calming the nervous or excitable horse and to help prepare the young horse for ridden work.
Emma has been working in the equine industry for over 25 years, having qualified as a Veterinary Physiotherapist in 2013 and a McTimoney Animal practitioner in 2011.
She is a qualified instructor, obtaining her BHS AI in 1999, which gives her the perfect skills to help teach clients rehabilitation techniques that work effectively alongside regular Veterinary Physiotherapy appointments.
She is a keen horsewoman, having ridden and owned horses for most of her life, currently owning two ex-racing TBs, Sollie and Ellin.
Sollie is now a man of leisure filling his time with in-hand walking, groundwork, and eating, and Ellin is a general riding horse having been rehabilitated by Emma through various ailments including overriding dorsal spinal processes and proximal suspensory desmitis.
Emma is passionate about equine welfare and care, believing that continued learning and education is at the heart of improving how we manage, ride, and train horses.
She believes that providing owners and caregivers with the knowledge of how to work, train, and manage their horses holistically, will improve the life of leisure and sports horses through correct training and managment.
